A research laboratory at Syracuse University founded in 1999 that is an integral part of Syracuse’s Center of Excellence. The lab researches indoor air quality and how to improve it. With the region’s recent push towards environmental sustainability it has become an integral part of Syracuse’s “green” movement.

There is even a maps section where you can find a map of any place in the world and get information on climate, culture and science-related topics.
This Virginia-based organization is under the U.S. Department of Commerce and offers over three million publications on 350 different scientific topics. All government-based research involving science or engineering is included in the site. It can be used on the local level as well — simply typing in “Syracuse” in the Technical Reports Search brings up hundreds of hits on government-sponsored research in the area.

The site includes information on the recent histories of different scientific issues, the science-related initiatives and a blog.
This daily newssite includes daily scientific discoveries that might be story leads. It boasts, ” over 65,000 research articles, 15,000 images, 2,500 encyclopedia entries, 1,500 book reviews, and hundreds of educational videos…” You can search along the top by type of media or by topic.
This website is primarily for the Washington, D.C.- Society of Science and its magazine, Science News, but contains much more. What makes it stand apart is its links to RSS feeds. Users can sign up for a variety of different topics and also register to receive the most recent science news in e-mail alerts. These features are great for national science story ideas that can then be localized.
This website is run by the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. especially for researchers and focuses on science, technology and business. The national medical and agricultural science libraries are separate entities, and located just outside of D.C. in Bethesda and Beltsville, Maryland, respectively. The LOC has access to more written material than any library in the world, so whether your search is broad or narrow this would be a great website.
This is the website for the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. The website’s E-Center provides environmental resources for researchers and includes a great deal of information about the local environment. The faculty directory provides experts on several different fields of Environmental Science.
This is the website for the medical school in Syracuse. For story ideas see special events or HealthLink, a podcast and radio show aired on WSYR-AM. The directory for each field of study gives faculty contact information to help with potential expert interviews. The site also includes a section on the Institute for Human Performance, a state-of-the-art facility adjacent to campus that researches biomedicine and studies sports performance, ability/disability and aging.
