This group claims to be the largest service group for arts in America and its goal is to find funding for the arts. Most helpful are News about the arts, and the blogs, updated regularly. The National Arts Policy database provides a wealth of information on many policy-related topics.
A regional arts organization serving Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego Counties. It says its goal is “to promote, support, and celebrate arts and culture in Central New York. Oldtimers will know this as the successor to the Cultural Resources Council. Most helpful at this site is the CNY Arts Directory listing arts organizations by topic, local arts classes and area festivals. The area’s prime arts museum includes 1,000 pieces of American art and is noted for its collection of ceramics. It is located in downtown Syracuse, in a facility that is a sculpture in itself, designed by I.M.Pei, the same architect as Newhouse I.
The organization brings 4-6 Broadway plays to Central New York, typically to the Landmark Theater or the Civic Center in downtown Syracuse.
This is the home for the federal government’s influence in the arts (both performing and fine arts). The site highlights programs run by the government in conjunction with state, national, and international arts organizations. Journalists can research brochures, notes and reports the organization puts out looking into the impact the arts have on communities.
This is a state organization that funds the arts and brings high-quality arts to New York State. The governor and State Senate appoint and approve the board. Most helpful for a reporter is a Grant Search where you can find what funding is given to organizations in cities, towns, Senate or Assembly districts.
This symphony debuted in December, 2012, after the bankruptcy of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. It includes many musicians from the previous orchestra. It performs a variety of concerts throughout the area, as it is working on a stronger financial foundation. Symphoria is operated by Musical Associates of Central New York (MACNY).

This local opera company produces 3-4 operas a year, as well as outreach and educational programs.
This is the area’s premier professional theatre and produces six plays a year in conjunction with Syracuse University. The state also offers an educational outreach program to school children.
